Anesthesia For Dental Implants

Some of the top priorities of our doctor are the safety and comfort of each of their dental patients. That’s why they use anesthesia when placing dental implants for Pasadena men and women. However, not every dental implant placement is the same, and which type of anesthesia used will depend on the needs of each individual patient. Dental implants can either be placed under local anesthesia (where the patient is fully awake); under general anesthesia (where the patient is fully asleep); or with light sedation combined with local anesthesia (where the patient is drowsy, but still somewhat conscious).

  • Local Anesthesia – If you only need a single dental implant, chances are our doctor will choose to use local anesthesia such as Novocain or Lidocaine. This form of anesthesia prevents Pasadena patients from feeling pain during the procedure, though they will still experience some pressure during the action of implantation. The benefit of using local anesthesia is that patients will be able to drive themselves home after their procedure and recover more quickly.
  • General Anesthesia – On the other hand, some patients require more sedation, either because of the extensiveness of their procedure or because of personal preference. General anesthesia allows patients to be completely unaware of their dental implant placement. More complex procedures inevitably involve more noise and pressure, something most patients don’t necessarily enjoy and choosing general anesthesia means you get to miss all of that and take a nice nap instead.
  • Light Sedation Combined With Local Anesthesia – This type of sedation is another option our doctor offers their patients during dental implant placement. Twilight sedation is a good choice for patients who have moderately complex dental implant needs. This helps Pasadena men and women take advantage of the local anesthesia benefits, but also puts them slightly asleep, keeping them largely unaware of their procedure.
