Patients often want to know what’s involved in our dental implant procedures, so let’s take a closer look at what you can expect.

Your Initial Consultation

The first step for Pasadena dental implants patients is the initial consultation. During this stage, your dentist will do the following to determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants:

  1. Imaging: X-rays will be taken of your mouth. Impressions of your teeth may also be taken for modeling purposes.
  2. Analysis: Your dentist will analyze the area(s) of your mouth that are missing teeth and determine which type of replacement teeth is recommended for you.
  3. Review: Your medical history will be reviewed to ensure you have no health conditions that could preclude you from being and implant treatment candidate.

Once this stage is completed, you will be referred to one of our surgeons for a thorough surgical evaluation.

Pre-Implant Surgical Evaluation

This stage is generally for the purpose of assessing the quantity and quality of your available jaw bone as well as determining the number of implants necessary for treatment. Pasadena dental implants patients require sufficient bone in order for implants to be placed, however, even if you don’t currently have enough bone, this doesn’t automatically disqualify you as a candidate. If you’ve lost a significant amount of bone due to bone resorption, the process that naturally occurs when teeth are no longer rooted in the bone and gums, bone grafts or bone creation may be employed to ensure excellent esthetic and functional results.

During this phase, we also often take 3D images of your teeth and jaws to gain more detailed information to craft an ideal treatment plan for you. Our offices are equipped with the most current 3D imaging technologies available, allowing us easy access to this additional level of detail at this stage. Once your surgical evaluation is complete, we will develop a treatment plan specific to your individual needs.

Getting Your New Dental Implants

Implant Placement

Following placement, the implants are left alone for several weeks, during which time your bone remodels around and forms a strong biological bond with them. You will be given temporary replacement teeth to use during this stage.

Abutment Attachment

After the abutments are attached, impressions of your existing teeth and the abutments will be taken and the shade of your permanent replacements will be determined. You will also be given temporary replacement teeth to use during this stage.

Fabrication and Fitting of Replacement Teeth

Once they are complete, you’ll be invited back to the office for fitting. During this stage, your dentist will ensure an ideal fit of your permanent replacements with your neighboring teeth, then, lastly, attach them to the abutments.
